Directions
1.Here are a few tips to facilitate

  • Shake the person's hand.
  • Remember the person's name with whom you are speaking and use their name in conversation.
  • Make eye contact.
  • Respect another person's personal space. Some people feel comfortable conversing in close proximity while others feel threatened.

2. Remember, a conversation goes twoways. One person must listen while the other person talks. Practice listening. Maybe this is why we have two ears and only one mouth. Think of some good places to start a conversation. For example, at the table, while waiting for an appointment, or while walking down the hall with someone.
Make a commitment now to start at least one conversation today. Try to meet someone you don't know.
Here are some sample topics to keep the conversation interesting and positive:
  • Ask someone a question about himself/herself.
  • Tell about something you started or finished today.
  • Talk about family.
  • Discuss a current event in the news.
  • Mention something you have in common.
  • Share a cartoon, riddle, inoffensive joke, or poem.
  • Discuss an interesting place you have been.
  • Give a sincere compliment.
  • Discuss something new you would like to try.
  • Mention a funny thing that happened to you today.
