Preparation
Choose whether you would rather speak your
memories into a tape recorder, video recorder or
write them in a journal. If you have trouble
writing, use a recorder or have someone write your
memories for you. Decide which method you will
use then choose your supplies accordingly.

Position
Sit at a table or in a comfortable place.

Directions
1.Decide what to record or write for future
generations. These are some ideas to get you
started. Remember to describe the details of
each memory, such as how things looked or felt.

  • Describe interesting weather you have seen.
  • Who or what is special to you?
  • What is the best thing you have ever done?
  • What have been your favorite pastimes?
  • What do you want to be remembered for?
  • Tell about favorite holiday experiences.
  • How did you meet your spouse?
  • What is your favorite childhood memory?
  • Where have you worked?
  • What were your parents like?
  • What do you remember about your grandparents?
  • What did you enjoy doing as a child?
  • Did you ever own land, a house, or a business?

2.Find a quiet spot to record your thoughts into the tape
recorder, video recorder, or on paper. If you are unsure how
to work the tape recorder or video recorder, ask for assistance.
Make sure that you include today's date and as many other
dates as you can.

3.People sometimes believe their own lives are common and
uninteresting, but that is not true. Include as many details as
possible to make your story come to life.
