Repot A Plant Develop a leisure pursuit and increase your self-awareness.
Preparation Locate a plant that is too large or small for the pot or a plant that is not thriving.
Position Sit or stand at a table.
This activity uses scissors. You may want to use gloves to protect your hands.
Directions 1.Choose a plant to repot. A plant may need to be repotted if it is too large or small for the pot it is in or if the plant looks unhealthy. 2.Spread newspaper or an old towel over the table to catch spills. 3.Once you have a plant to repot, put the palm of your hand over the top of the soil with the stem of the plant. between two fingers. Gently turn the plant over and tap the bottom of the pot. This should loosen the plant from the pot. If the plant is difficult to remove, you may need to water it lightly and try again.
4.Examine the roots of the plant. If the roots look white and alive, the plant should go into a larger pot to allow it room to grow. If the roots are brown or yellow, they can be gently scraped or cut away to allow for new root growth. Depending on how much of the plant is removed, you may need to use a smaller pot or the plant may go back into the original pot.
5.Prepare the pot by making sure it has good drainage. Use rocks, eggshells, or pieces of a broken pot to line the bottom. 6.Next cover the bottom of the pot and drainage material with about 2 inches of potting soil. 7.Carefully place the plant in the pot. You want the base of the plant to be 1 or 2 inches below the rim of the pot so there is room to water the plant. Add potting soil to the bottom of the pot
